ARRIS SURFboard SBG6782AC Cable Modem review

ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 – the great little modem packing a big punch.
If you think that moving over from renting your modem equipment from your ISP to buying (and owning) your own; seems daunting and like too much of an effort; this little modem the ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 will prove the exact opposite. Renting your modem equipment directly from your ISP might seem like the easier option, and to a lot of us (especially those of us who are not all that tech savvy) it usually is; but the truth is that buying your own modem; even though it is an initial investment; is so much more convenient in the long run.

The Arris SURFboard SB6183 is a high speed modem with Ethernet based connections. It has Universal ISP compatibilities and is also compatible with all Windows OS. The modem speed is 600000kb/s. The Maximum data speed is 300mb/s, the maximum upstream speed is 100mb/s and the maximum downstream speeds are 686mb/s. These specifications mean that the modem can handle most types of data packages and connection speeds.

Pros:
· As mentioned the ARRIS SB6183 has the Universal ISP Compatibility; and in testing was compatible with over 78% of ISP’s.
· The ARRIS SB6183 also supports most internet speeds and is limited at a max data speed of 300mb/s (which is a lot).
· This modem has 16 channels available; while most others only have 4 or 8. This means that when the modem is shared (like with your neighbors) the line speed won’t drop as drastically as with modems with fewer channels. Also this means if there are no other users on the channels, the data speeds will be at their top.
· This modem has shown consistent performance, and has not shown uncalled for drops in data speed, or in downstream speeds and it also supports the latest standards for high speed data transfer. The ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 is a very fast little modem.
· This modem is also very user-friendly with easily interpreted indicator lights. Setup is easy and does not require too much tech knowledge. Simply connect the modem up and contact your ISP to connect with the modem (once-off) and you’re good to go.

Cons:
· The customer service is known to be rather bad. Be warned that if you have an issue with the modems hardware or functioning; you are more likely to find help through online forums than you are from the tech support.
· The life expectancy of the modem (depending on use and care of course) can also be rather short lived, and the modem will need replacing eventually.

All in all the ARRIS SB6183 is really a fantastic modem to use and covers all the requirements of a good modem very well (speed, efficiency, user-friendliness). It comes highly recommended by a number of sites as well. Also, the number of positive reviews on the Arris SB6183 speaks for themselves. I can say that the ease of use that this modem offers more than makes up for the few flaws that it has shown. It is definitely worth looking at, and highly recommended.
